It is often not reasonable to think about early retirement. There are several issues involved here, but many people think about the income production side of retirement planning. A woman today who has lived to age 65 without any cancer or cardiac events has a life expectancy of 92 years. That means even if that woman retires at 65, her nest egg has to not only last here 27 years, but should keep ahead of inflation for 27 years, also. A lot of people don't think that far in advance so that can be a problem. You can find some of the answers here: http://retiredsafely.com/index.php?p=1_24_The-Ultimate-Plan
